Anti-performance “I want to abolish mental institutions” (in english / по-английский)

Anti-performance “I want to abolish mental institutions” is about the problem of the mental health that is a very subjective category. For example, Michel Foucault which was the main hero of that anti-performance, because Jury Urso reads some excerpts from his book in the main state republic mental institution called “Navinki” addressing to the supposedly mentally ill people. Foucault tells us in his great book “History of Madness”: “The psychopathology of the nineteenth century (and perhaps our own too, even now) believes that it orients itself and takes its bearings in relation to a homo natura, a normal man pre-existing all experience of mental illness. Such a man is in fact an invention, and if he is to be situated, it is not in a natural space, but in a system that identifies the socius to the subject of the law. Consequently a madman is not recognized as such because an illness has pushed him to the margins of normality, but because our culture situates him at the meeting point between the social decree of confinement and the juridical knowledge that evaluates the responsibility of individuals before the law”. Thus, Foucault who was one of the main theorists of the anti psychiatry movement that states that there is no such thing as abnormal person. When Jury was reading Foucault one young man dressed in a soviet flag tried to kill him with strange iron object that looked like hammer and sickle symbolizing all that repressive anti humanistic soviet psychiatry system that treats people like things that continues to exist in Belarus. All patients of mental institution applauded and someone even shaked Jury’s hand who concluded reading Foucault with telling to the public “I think all mental institutions should be destroyed and patients should be released”.
